Welcome to explorers pre-school

Explorers Pre-school is a charity and committee run setting, led by a Level 5 manager and supported by a small, dedicated team of highly qualified practitioners. We are passionate about providing a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported to learn, grow and thrive. 

Our voluntary committee is made up of parents and carers, alongside members of the local community. The committee works closely with the Pre-school to support its ongoing development and ensure the smooth and effective running of the setting. 

Our Sessions and Funding

We are a term-time setting, open Monday to Friday, from 8:45am to 3.15pm. We offer a range of sessions to suit you family’s needs:

Morning Sessions: 8:45am – 12:00pm

Morning Sessions with lunch: 8:45am – 1:00pm

Afternoon Sessions: 12:00pm – 3:15pm

Full Day: 8:45am – 3:15pm

We currently run ‘Dinosaur Club’ for our early children from 8:30am, with a £1 voluntary donation fee.

We are eligible to receive 2, 3 and 4-year-old funding, including the 30 hours extended funding. We are also registered for the Tax-Free childcare scheme.

Our Learning Environment

We are incredibly proud of our indoor and outdoor learning environments, which have been thoughtfully developed to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration and support children’s learning and development.

We continually strive to ensure our spaces are safe, engaging and stimulating providing opportunities for children to build confidence, develop independence and learn through play. We want every child to feel a sense of belonging at Explorers, with the freedom and encouragement to explore their interests, try new experiences and develop at their own pace. 

Our Community and Links with School

Explorers Pre-school is based within the grounds of St Nicholas Primary School in Henstridge. Although we are an independent setting, we greatly value our close links with the school and appreciate the opportunities to make use of its wonderful grounds. Whether enjoying a run around on the field, climbing on the outdoor equipment or taking part in outdoor learning in the learning garden. 

We have built positive relationships with the school staff, including the Reception teacher, which helps us to support the children as they prepare for their next exciting step into primary school. We understand that starting school is a big milestone, and we aim to make this transition as happy and positive for both children and their families.

Learning Through Exploration, Play and Discovery

At Explorers, we believe that children learn best when they are happy, curious and actively involved in their experiences. We are passionate about providing a wide range of opportunities from everyday activities and child-led play to exciting new experiences that broaden children’s understanding of the world around them.

We welcome visitors from our local community and work with a variety of people and organisations to create special moments of awe and wonder. These experiences encourage children to ask questions, discover something new and develop a greater appreciation of the people, places and world around them.

Above all, we want every child to enjoy their time at Explorers, making lasting memories, building friendships and developing the confidence and skills they need for their next steps in learning.
